No front porch fireworks this year

San Antonio’s New Year's Eve event will be virtual this year, hosted by Randy Beamer and Don Harris on our local NBC affiliate, News 4.

The midnight fireworks will be launched from inside Fiesta Texas, so there won’t be any front porch views from here in the neighborhood.

It’s likely that next year’s celebration will return to downtown, but details aren’t clear.

Mary Jane Verette, the president and CEO of the San Antonio Parks Foundation told Lavaca and Friends today that the foundation is planning to return the event to downtown, but they need to find a site. ’The current plans call for Alamo Street to be under construction,’ she told us. So the usual Alamo Street party likely won’t be feasible.

Meanwhile, this year's virtual event is scheduled to run from 10:00 PM to 12:30 AM on News 4. You can find details on the Parks Foundation website (see link in footnotes, below).
