A lot of new places are coming soon
In spite of the pandemic, there are more than half a dozen new spots in the neighborhood that are close to opening. We're following them, and we've reached out to the owners of most of them for more information. Here's a list of what we're watching.
PHARM TABLE is already operating out of a food truck in the parking area outside its in-progress indoor restaurant space. It is located in the Steel City Pops space at the intersection of Alamo, St. Mary's, and Presa.
LOS CUATES is being built out next to La Frite in the 700 block of South Alamo. It is owned by Erik Rosales, who also operates the Pipe Corner and QPV, right across the street. We've contacted Erik, but we're still waiting to get detailed information from him.
HOLA! is a new tapas restaurant going into the space previously occupied by Dreamweaver florists. It is operated by Chef Rene Fernández, owner of Azuca. Chef Rene tells us the new spot will have both indoor and outdoor seating. The space is still in the process of building-out and permitting, and he is not yet able to provide an opening date.
THE FLOUR PLACE is right next door to Los Cuates. Signage on the door has been promising that it will be opening soon for quite a few months now. The listed phone number hasn't been accepting messages, but we caught the owner on-site just a couple of weeks ago, and he told us that he was, at that moment, waiting for a final inspection. We gave him our contact information and asked him to update us.
BAR LORETTA is going into the former Madhatter's restaurant space, across Beauregard from Tito's, just off South Alamo. This place has a website in place stating that it's coming soon 'in February', but during a recent walk-by, we noticed that electrical work is still underway, and we'd be surprised if they were ready to open before late March.
MIXTLI -- a 'progressive Mexican culinaria' -- is set to open soon in its new space in the Steel City Pops building, right next door to Pharm Table. Build-out is still underway, and we don't yet have an opening date. Mixtli has a website that appears to include a blueprint of their planned space.
There's an UNNAMED new place going into the space previously occupied by Bite at 1012 South Presa, on the same block as Taco Haven. We noticed a liquor license application in the window, filed by HANDS DOWN LLC, and a corporate search traced that entity back to restaurant entrepreneur Chad Carey, owner of Hot Joy. Chad is not yet ready to announce any details about the new spot.
