Neighborhood restaurants cautiously re-open
Updated: Jun 19, 2020
As virus-inspired regulations loosen, neighborhood restaurants are feeling their way toward re-opening.
Since mid March, most of them have been offering take-out and delivery only, and some have shut down completely.
In recent weeks, state regulations allow restaurants to offer dining-in, and most local places are giving it a try.
‘We’re trying to do this in a safe way,’ says Chef René Fernandez of Azuca Nuevo Latino. ‘We’ve set up our tables to maintain a safe distance, our people are all using masks, and we’re asking our customers to use masks, too, when they’re not seated at their table.’
We’ve spent the past few days updating our Lavaca and Friends restaurant page with the latest information. To collect that info, we’ve checked restaurant web sites and Facebook pages, and, in many cases, we’ve spoken to the owner or manager by phone.
Most neighborhood restaurants are open now for dining in. At the same time, most of them still offer both take-out and delivery. Before using delivery, however, remember that most restaurants handle delivery through third-party services that take a big cut of your payment. So if you really want to help your favorite spot, do take-out instead.
Based on what we’ve learned through our research the past few days, these are the places that have re-opened for dining in or provide outdoor seating. Check our restaurants page for more information and links:
